Zen Nguyen is a Vietnamese-born, London-based director and producer with an MA in Directing, a Master’s in Creative and Marketing, and a BA in Communication. After a decade producing commercials for global brands including HSBC, Nestlé, and KitKat, she transitioned into narrative filmmaking to pursue her passion for storytelling.
She recently directed the six-episode miniseries Blue Season, a UK–Singapore co-production currently in post-production and slated for release in late 2025.
Her 2024 short film Scarlet Silence won Best Thriller at the London Global Film Awards and Best Short Drama at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival, a Canadian Screen Award–qualifying festival, where she was also nominated for Best Female Filmmaker. It was also selected for Director Talents Movie Awards, Stockholm Short Festival, Liverpool Indie Awards, Femme Filmmakers Festival and European Short Awards.
In 2022, Zen worked as line producer on the feature film The Girl from The Past, which went on to win awards for Best Cinematography and Visual Effects.
With a strong foundation in both directing and producing, Zen thrives on collaboration with talent in front of and behind the camera. She is dedicated to fostering representation, championing inclusive stories, and challenging stereotypes on screen. Her ambition is to contribute to a more authentic, dynamic cinematic landscape.
Beyond filmmaking, she frequently visits galleries, drawing inspiration from visual art to enrich her creative practice.
